Leadlight overlay in 5 easy steps
Choose a design
A non-permanent marker is used to draw the design of your choice onto the rough side of the glass.
For extra security and durability, the design can be applied to toughened safety glass.
Apply Glass Magic lead
Flip the glass over, clean thoroughly then, following the template you have drawn, apply Glass Magic patented lead overlay to the glass.
Flip again and remove the marker, tracing the lead pattern on the opposite side so that you now have lead overlay on both sides of the glass.
Solder & add a Patina finish
Joins are soldered and cleaned, then the lead is darkened using either a patina or graphite.
Soldering also seals the cells ready for the Glass Magic stain to be poured in to the areas you wish to colour.
Add colour to your design
Premix your colours using the Glass Magic colour chart and lay your glass on a flat, even surface. Using a pipette, pour the UV resistant stain into the desired areas of the design.
Allow approximately 24 hours for the stain to set.
Step 5 - Install
Installing your leadlight
You can choose to fit the leadlight yourself or we can have one of our expert tradesmen book a time to install your leadlight.
Alternatively, your leadlight can be collected or delivered to your local glazier or tradesman who can fit the leadlight for you.
On occasion, leadlight can be pre-installed in your workshop, as is the case with some aluminium windows.
